about

Derek King Liverpool, UK

With songs about the ups and downs of life and love, and the odd bit of topical content thrown in, Derek is very much a songwriter for today.

Singer-songwriter and co host of "Liverpool Acoustic" events which take place in various Liverpool venues. But for the sake of refusing to get a punky haircut, I was almost the bassist in the Vapors....! I know what you're thinking, "lucky escape!"

Track Name: Faith and Belief
Faith and Belief

Do you have faith, and does your faith make you feel safe?
Do you believe in a place where we go when we die?
And do you hold a belief learned from rabbi, imam or priest?
And do you believe in a magical man in the sky?

And of a thousand gods is yours the one that's real?
And did he create this infinity just for us, what's the deal?
And were your prophets the only ones who saw the truth?

I'd rather keep my mind open to wonder than be blinded by faith and belief
God and Jehova, Allah and Yahweh, they're one and the same thing it would seem
The Romans saw Jupiter and Venus
The Greeks looked up to Mount Olympus
And the Norsemen believed that Odin would show them the way

Is your world flat? Did your holy book teach you that?
The rabbi is right, so's the imam so don't disobey
And if you're hungry and poor be thankful and don't ask for more
Because heaven awaits all you god-fearing people who pray

And was the holy land given to just you and your folk?
And does your god tell you to go and kill? Or is that some kind of joke?
And if I don't believe in the same god as you what would you do?
Would you cut off my head?

I'd rather keep my mind open to wonder than be blinded by faith and belief
Church and synagogue, temple and mosque, can you explain the difference please?

Confess, say your prayers, keep your state of grace
Walk three steps behind and cover your face
Live your life on your knees - the almighty commands!

And if your religion is worth killing for, do us all a favour and start with yourself!

I'd rather keep my mind open to wonder than be blinded by faith and belief
